About Us
Who We Are
FORMED in June 2008, Green Assembly Asia is a loose-knit group of volunteers who believe that climate change is the single biggest challenge facing the world today and that each of us can do something about it.
We are of different nationalities, different creeds and different backgrounds. Some of us are journalists, some work for non-government organisations, some of us are teachers. All of us try to live our values, doing what we can to keep our own carbon footprint to a minimum, using public transport where possible, limiting our use of air-travel, minimising our use of water, electricity, and paper; and purchasing what we need as opposed to what we may want.
Who We Are Not
None of us has shareholdings or any vested interest in any commercial enterprise such as a manufacturing company, retailer, bank, energy company or indeed any profit-motivated organisation. Nor are we aligned with any political system, political party, religious institution, church, sect or country.
Where We Are
The countries in which our volunteers live or work include: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. We also have associate volunteers in Bangladesh, Brunei, Korea (South), Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, and Vietnam
Our Mission
- provide up-to-date news stories about environmental issues, focussing on Asia
- provide major stories that have international significance
- provide background information that relates to the stories we publish
- provide information about major international organisations concerned with the environment
- provide similar information about national organisations concerned with the environment
How are we Funded
We have no operating costs except for an annual fee to our website host, and this is covered by contributions from some of the volunteers. Other than this, Green Assembly Asia has no costs at the present time which is why we don’t accept advertising, donations or sponsorship. However, we do accept assistance with travel expenses if the volunteers consider that it is in the interest of the website.
Our Vision
Our vision is broad. It includes a world with a stable climate that is not affected by human activity. We envisage a clean world in which there is no pollution, where transport is from totally renewable energy, and where deforestation is a thing of the past.
The Climate Debate
Some people say the debate about climate change is over. We believe the debate should remain open and that all new evidence should be investigated, whether it advances the belief that global warming is due to the activity of mankind, or casts doubt on it.
However, so long as the balance of informed scientific opinion supports the view that gases emanating from human activity are the main contributor to climate change, we will continue to provide relevant news coverage and background information.
Is this Website for You?
The main aim of our website is to inform opinion leaders, NGOs, government organisations, environmental groups, societies, associations, institutes, universities and individuals who share our view that global warming is the single most important issue facing the world today.
