Asean inks pact with China’s Guangdong province

INDONESIA ¬ Energy and the environment are among seven sectors covered by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Jakarta today by the Association of Southeast Nations (Asean) and the province of Guangdong, China.

The parties agreed to cooperate on agriculture, information and communications technology, trade and investment, tourism promotion, energy and environment, education, and public health.

“This Memorandum will …..further promote the development of the Asean-China free trade area,” Asean secretary general, Dr Surin, said in a statement.

The ASEAN secretariat signed a similar MoU with Hubei Province of China on 11 May 2008.
