Department of Environmental Quality Promotion

THE Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP) was established in 1992 as a result of the Royal Thai Government announcing the replacement of the 1975 legislation with the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act B.E.2535 (1992). At the same time the Office of the National Environment Board was divided into:
- Pollution Control Department
- Office of Environmental Policy and Planning
- Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP)
DEQP responsibilities were also amended by the transfer of the Section of Environmental Analysis from Photograph to be under Environmental Policy and Planning and the transfer of Environmental Research and Training to be under the Division of Environmental Quality Standard..
In the government restructuring of 2002, DEQP was moved to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to whom it is answerable today.
DEQP responsibilities are:
- To promote and disseminate environmental data and information.
- To compile, develop and promote the use of environmental databases and act as the national environmental information centre.
- To support public participation in environmental protection and balanced utilization of biological diversity and environmental natural resources.
- To coordinate and formulate plans and measures to promote and disseminate the protection of national resources and the environment.
- To study, research, develop and support environmental management and technology including acting as a clean technology centre or environmental reference operation centre.
- To carry out other functions of the DEQP as assigned by the law or by the ministry or by the cabinet.
