Self-description: Thailand’s Energy Policy & Planning Office (EPPO)
During the administration of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, policies were [put] in place to reform the civil service sector of Thailand, to increase its efficiency and to reduce redundancy [duplication] in various government agencies.
In light of this, the Government set up various new agencies in order to take charge of new tasks, with more defined missions and responsibilities.
The Government, therefore, endorsed the enactment of the Act on the Administrative Organization of State Affairs (No.5) BE. 2545 (2002) and the Act on Organising Ministries, Sub-ministries and Departments BE. 2545 which saw the establishment of the Ministry of Energy, to oversee and administer national energy issues.
The supervision of the National Energy Policy Office (NEPO) was transferred from the Secretariat of the Prime Minister to that of the Ministry of Energy. NEPO was since [October 2002] named the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO)

Vision
EPPO determines to be the central agency to efficiently set and manage national energy policies, taking into consideration the development of the economy, society, and the environment. EPPO will work with transparency, emphasizing public participation and networking, and will become a learning organization that is accepted nationally and internationally.

Mission
EPPO will develop policies and plans, coordinate in bringing plans into practice, monitor and evaluate, and will build international cooperation to promote energy conservation and efficiency.
